William Rast: Homage In Clothing

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008
by Cynthia Acerra

Justin Timberlake and his childhood friend, Trace Ayala have created the new clothing line William Rast to pay homage to their grandfathers and to set a new fashion trend that will last and evolve in the fashion world. Using the first name William from Justin Timberlake’s grandfather, and the last name Rast of Trace Ayala’s grandfather, the two knew they had the perfect name for the William Rast line.

Trendy and inspired is how anyone who sees or wears the William Rast jeans describe them and the rest of the creations of the two life long friends. Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala worked hard to get the concept right and only then did they believe the William Rast jeans were ready to set a new trend and give honor to their grandfathers’ names. The mixture of Memphis, Tennessee down home feel with the fast-paced chic feel of Hollywood, California was the final concept agreed on by the founders and the focus on the next step, getting it designed and to the public.

Ugg Boot Cleaning - Sheepskin Fashion Care

Sheepskin is quite amazing. These single layered sheepskin Ugg boots, where the leather skin is on the outside, have captivating properties. The wool fleece can be worn without socks whereas synthetic fur will make your feet perspire heavily and make your feet ice-cold in winter. Worse yet, synthetics develop an odor quickly.

Uggs au natural are not like that; it takes a much longer time for odor to build and for some reason, it is not pungent. With genuine sheepskin your feet do not perspire much, stay warm in winter, air-conditioned in summer.

Ben Sherman Makes Noise With Music and Youth

Sunday, October 5th, 2008
by Cynthia Acerra

In 1963, a man by the name of Alfred Benjamin Sugarman decided to make a change, and change he did. He changed his name to Ben Sherman, then took his innovative ideas for shirts and created the Ben Sherman shirt, which is commonly called the Oxford button down shirt. The Ben Sherman clothes company began in Brighton, England, but within six years had to move to North Ireland because of the incredible success of the Ben Sherman button down shirt. The Ben Sherman shirt has become an icon of the decades from the 1960’s until now, evolving with the times while staying true to their roots.

In the 1960’s, the youth wanted to be smart, tough and good-looking. The Ben Sherman shirt fit the bill perfectly and was adopted by the group almost immediately. It did not take long for other subcultures to view Ben Sherman as iconic and made the Ben Sherman brand associated with Mod, Skinhead, and music cultures. The Ben Sherman shirts under the suits were the staple for the Mod group and the heavy boots, jeans and Ben Sherman shirts for the skinheads. Of course, the Beatles, the Who and the Rolling Stones wore the shirt and thus began its history of being part of the rebellion of youth.
